Preparing for your Family Photography Session

Tips for Great Photos

  • Keep clothing simple. Try to choose solid colors for your photo session.
  • You do not need to dress in matching colours, but try to have similar tones, ie everyone in light neutral colours and pastels or everyone in strong vibrant colours and dark colours but not a mixture.
  • Our photographer may suggest a full-length pose. Make sure you coordinate your family's clothing from head to toe.
  • Scoops or v-necks flatter shorter necks and full faces. Turtlenecks or high-necked garments flatter longer necks and slender faces.
  • Keep clothing consistent. Dress everyone in the same style. Don't mix casual and formal clothing in photos.
  • Add accents. Show your style in small accents. Save stronger colors and patterns for accessories like scarves and neckties.

Props for children

Your photography should reflect your child’s personality and individual style. Try adding a splash of color with an accessory, handmade item or a special family heirloom so that your photo memories will have a personal touch.
